Boots

Building from a gentle, acoustic strum with trickles of electric guitar to a crescendo of splintered chords and rousing vocals.

The Liar

A punchy burst of rock and roll in the verse followed by a rich, infectious chorus that echoes the mercurial Harry Nilsson

Rest For the Wicked

A vengeful, spiky track with a twist of Tom Waits. The guitar drips down as the bass and drums ripple beneath you, oozing darkness and delight in equal measure

Boots

Boots was recorded in 2011 at Broadoak Studios in Bexhill-on-Sea over one blistering October weekend. The band for the sessions was made up of Matt Carpanini (lead vocals), Andy Ellis (guitars and backing vocals), Matt Barker (bass) and Ben Crossman (drums).

They were tightly drilled over the summer to prepare them for work in a high-pressure studio environment. With nothing to live on but crisps and coffee, they thundered into the sessions like a well-oiled machine. With a rumble of drums, thump of the bass and mercurial stabs of guitar, an album was forged.

The Band on the album

Evesham’s own Andy Ellis is a guitar virtuoso. Having arrived in mid-summer, he swiftly learned the songs and helped develop the direction of the album. With a chameleonic ability to shift style and improvise intelligently, he showcased his skills in the recording and stamped his mark firmly on the album. Matt Carpanini and Andy Ellis will be performing the album live both as an acoustic duo and with a full band this year.

Northwich-born Matt Barker is a master of the bass. Having played with Matt Carpanini for a few years, he had an innate understanding of the songs and sound. He delivered on every recording with methodical genius. Once the album was recorded, Matt retired to a village in Cheshire where he is currently plying his trade as a cockle farmer.

Ben Crossman of Bowden is a drumming legend. He struggled to cope at times with Matt Barker’s dominating presence, but his determination to succeed led to a majestic series of takes on the album. So pleased was Ben with this legacy, he decided to hang up his sticks in May 2012. Ben now lives with his family on a ranch somewhere south of Crawley.
